Multi-award winning Newport company, Kelly’s Butchers, collected another prestigious prize last week - this time at the Connacht final of the Ulster Bank Business Achievers Awards.
The business won the food and drink category at the Business Achievers awards, which celebrate excellence and innovation in business,
Kelly’s will now progress to the national final of the competition in December, competing against winners from Munster, Leinster and Ulster.
Speaking after the awards, Sean F Kelly of Kelly’s Butchers, said the business is delighted to be on its way to the national final.
“This success is a reflection of the talent and dedication of our team, and being recognised for our hard work is a great boost,” he said.
Kelly’s Butchers is a traditional artisan butcher shop in Newport, producing and selling award winning black and white puddings and sausages.
They also produce the ‘Putóg’, a unique and traditional type of black pudding.
Kelly’s black and white pudding is stocked nationwide, primarily in SuperValu and Europa food stores, and the company has recently begun selling in the UK.
The Kelly family also operates its own licensed abattoir, slaughtering locally sourced lamb and beef.
The shop was founded in the 1930s, by Sean Kelly’s father, Dominick, but has been run by Sean, his brother Seamus, and Sean’s two sons, Kenneth and Cormac, since 1982.
