One of best loved plays by great Russian playwright Anton Chekhov comes to the Linenhall Arts Centre in Castlebar next Thursday, November 6, at 8pm.
Uncle Vanya, an absurdist yet compassionate comedy, first performed in Moscow in 1899, tells the story of a languid, lazy, summer in the countryside, when a dysfunctional family is invaded by relatives - the retired professor and his young beautiful wife. Lives are turned inside out in what ensues. The play is presented by theatreWorksWest.
It follows on from the company’s very successful production of Chekhov’s The Cherry Orchard.
A fine cast includes Patrick O’Reilly, Anneli Watson, Niall Conway, and Niamh Lally, directed by Patricia Kuester.
Booking is advised. Telephone (094 ) 9023733 or book online at www.thelinenhall.com
