Ballyvary woman on quest to meet Barack Obama

Ballyvary native and head of news and sport with the new regional radio station i105107, Sinead O'Donnell is on a mission to meet president elect Barack Obama.

Mr Obama's distant relative Henry Healy, from Moneygall in Co Offaly, has kindly agreed to allow Sinead make a documentary on him and his quest to meet cousin Barack.

“When it was discovered that Barack Obama's ancestors hailed from the tiny village of Moneygall in Co Offaly, the family started researching our family tree and we quickly learned that there was a link between Barack Obama and the Healy family,” said Henry Healy. “Barack and I share the same great, great, great grandfather, making him roughly my ninth cousin.

“The Irish American Democrats in the US then sent me an invitation to the inauguration and I'm quietly confident that President Obama will be there,” said Mr Healy.

The Friends of DC have kindly allowed local journalist Sinead O'Donnell cover the inauguration celebrations as part of the documentary on Henry Healy.

“It's a privilege to be a part of such an historic event,” said Sinead. “It's rumoured Hilary Clinton will be attending and speaking at the Irish American Democrats function which Henry Healy and I will be attending, so fingers crossed Barack Obama will make an appearance.”

It is hoped the documentary on Henry Healy and his experience of attending the inauguration of America's first African American President will be broadcast by this summer.
