Winter leagues swing into life

Balla

Last weekend’s competition was a rumble event jointly sponsored by SuperValu Castlebar and Walsh’s Timber Floors, Kiltimagh. First place went to the team of James Waldron, Michael Clesham and PJ Brett who finished with a score of 78pts. Second place was claimed by Aodan McSuibhne, Mary B O’Donnell and Dick Heraty, with third place going to the trio of Geraldine O’Malley, Catherine McNulty and Kathleen Minogue.

Ballina

The President’s prize was up for grabs last weekend in Ballina and Malcolm Nash with a score of 66nett picked up the win, with John Forkin and Darren Flaherty making up the top three. There were category wins for Colm McLoughlin, Pearse Forde and Ollie Bolton, with Damien McHale winning the front nine section and Michael O’Malley the back nine. The Joseph Gavin singles competition was won by Richard Doherty, with K Sheridan winning the Crocketts sponsored singles competition.

Golfers interested in playing in the Winter League are asked to enter their names on the BRS Booking System for November 2 which is now available online. The league takes place on November 2, 9,16 and 23 the format will be a 15 hole scramble.

Ballinrobe

The grand final of the open Friday competition took place last week and Michael McManamon was the winner with a score of 38pts, Jim Sheridan finished in second, Eamon Naughton came home in third, with Richard Donoghue finishing in fourth. The front nine section was won by David Joyce, with Vincent Carney taking the back nine win. Mick Mehigan won the best visitor competition. The ladies’ competition was won by Catherine O’Toole, with Maria Doherty coming home in second place. Marian Scully finished in third place, with Maura Joyce winning the front nine competition and Deirdre Daly winning the back nine competition. Peggy Butler was the winner of the visitors section.

Ballyhaunis

Eugene Kilbride won the gents’ section of last weekend’s competition sponsored by Agri-Spread Ltd. Kilbride scored 41pts, with Karl Coyne coming home in second place two points behind. The ladies section was won by Kay Keane with a score of 33pts.

Mulranny

The Mulranny Park Hotel Winter League got under way last weekend with weather conditions making scoring difficult. Individuals may also play in the 15 holes competition sponsored by Hurst Heating, Castlebar.

Last week’s winner was David Ryder who scored 36pts, with Liam Walsh coming home in second place on 34pts and Tony McDonnell finishing in third place also on 34pts. The team scores will be posted in the clubhouse.

Swinford

Last weekend’s ladies’ competition sponsored by Baxter Healthcare, was won by Mary Doyle with a score of 39.5nett. She took the win on count back after Bernie Walsh also finished on 39.5nett to claim second place.

Westport

There will be open competitions on Saturday, Sunday and Monday over the bank holiday weekend. Entry fee will be €20 for visitors and €7 for members.

The ladies’ club AGM will take place on Monday, November 3 at 8pm in Westport Golf Club, the gents’ club AGM will take place on Wednesday, November 5 at 8pm; and the joint club AGM will take place on Tuesday, November 20 8pm. All meetings will take place in the golf club.
