Nobel Peace Prize winner, Muhammad Yunas from Bangladesh, is speaking in Ballina today (Friday ) for the inaugural International Human Rights Lecture of the Mary Robinson Centre.
The lecture will be followed by a question and answer session with Mr Yunas and Mary Robinson.
Mr Yunas won the Nobel prize for his pioneering work in the area of using micro-finance to combat poverty.
The Mary Robinson Centre, set to open in early 2016, is to be Ireland’s first presidential library and will include a museum, presidential archive, research facility, and events venue.
The lecture on Friday is part of a series of events planned to put Ballina and the €7.5 million Mary Robinson Centre on the map as a centre for academia and research in fields such as climate justice, women in leadership, and human rights.
