Enterprise Ireland potential exporters division aims to get more Irish companies exporting

Enterprise Ireland’s ‘Get Export Ready’ event was held in the west recently with 30 attendees. The event is designed as a master class for potential new exporters on how to internationalise their business from an Irish base. “Indigenous Irish exports are growing year on year and our priority is to build on this momentum, getting more and more Irish companies into exporting and winning new business,” said Barry Egan, director – West Region at Enterprise Ireland.

The event was addressed by Michael Earls, founder and managing director of Easyfix in Ballinasloe. Earls spoke about the business lessons learned from the export success of Easyfix which designs, develops, and manufactures a wide range of award winning and innovative rubber flooring solutions for animal housing as well as an extensive range of equine fence products. “There is business to be won in overseas markets. It may take time to get a foothold in some countries, but be patient, believe in your product, and persevere. Ensure your business model has the capacity to meet the export challenges, use the extensive export resources provided by Enterprise Ireland, and be willing to always innovate and adapt your product range to meet the needs of overseas markets,” stated Earls.

David Byrne, head of the Potential Exporters Division in Enterprise Ireland, spoke about the supports available from Enterprise Ireland to help a company to make that first step, including an export workshop which is planned for October 23 in Galway. This one day programme focuses on practical measures for early exporters, the importance of research, developing a value proposition and the skills of export selling. “It will support and help prepare companies interested in targeting international markets to confront the challenges that any company faces as it prepares to export,” stated Byrne.
