Castlebar is set to come alive with the sound of music when 52 acts perform in 24 venues across the town, for the inaugural Celebration of Music festival, over the October Bank Holiday weekend.
A group of keen publicans, restaurant owners and retailers have got together, supported by Castlebar Chamber’s tourism and events coordinator, Mick Baynes, to rock the town with live music.
“At a recent meeting, it was decided to showcase what Castlebar has to offer both the local and visitor for the bank holiday from Thursday October 23, to Sunday October 26,” explained Mr Baynes.
“There will be street buskers (weather permitting ), shop performances, impromptu sessions, music while you dine, and even a chance to become a star yourself with karaoke. Ninety per cent of the performances are free,” he continued.
“So many people come home to the town for that weekend, as it is the last holiday before Christmas, so there will be plenty of music on to entertain.
“The kids will have their hands full with the annual children’s arts festival, Roola Boola, taking place in the Linenhall as well.
“People staying at Breaffy House will also be able join in the fun, as a special shuttle bus will be put on.”
More information, with a full line-up of music, to follow in next week’s Mayo Advertiser.
