Music fans are in for a real treat this October Bank Holiday weekend with several acts appearing live at the Royal Theatre.
As well as the Festival Folk (see featured article ) on Thursday October 23 fans of funk can enjoy the Renegade Brass Band in the Velvet Lounge on the same night.
Combining eight horns, two percussionists, a scratch DJ, and live MC, the Renegade Brass Band mix funk, hip hop, and jazz with a raw brass sound and high energy live show.
A hit with crowds across Europe, the band has played at festivals including Secret Garden Party, Sea Sessions Ireland, Kendal Calling, and several times at Soundwave Croatia, warming up for artists such as DJ Shadow and DJ Yoda.
The show starts at 11.30pm and tickets are priced at €20.
Dr Hook
Millions of fans around the world will remember Ray Sawyer as the highly animated, eye patched lead singer of Dr Hook.
His raspy, soulful, and sometimes comic vocals fronted the band’s breakthrough to international superstar status from the 1960s to the early 1980s with many hits, including ‘Sylvia’s Mother’, ‘When You’re in Love With a Beautiful Woman’, ‘A Little Bit More’, ‘Sexy Eyes’, and ‘Sharing the Night Together’.
Relive the memories with the original Ray Sawyer and Dr Hook on Friday October 24. Show starts at 8pm and tickets cost €27.50.
Celebrating Jim Reeves
On Saturday October 25, to mark the 50th anniversary of the death of the great Jim Reeves, Al Grant presents an insight into the life and times of the ‘Great Man’, with a wonderful concert of his many classic songs in an evening of song and story including a unique audio/visual experience.
Renowned for his interpretation of Jim Reeves, Grant is backed by a band which includes some of Ireland's finest musicians. Special guest on the night will be the much loved singer/songwriter Isla Grant.
Expect hits such as ‘Welcome to My World’, ‘He’ll have to Go’, ‘Moonlight and Roses’ and many more.
The show on starts at 8pm and tickets are priced at €27.65.
The Drifters
The Drifters have enjoyed massive chart success across the world with more than 114 million album sales and 214 million single sales, and a vast catalogue of hits, the most recent being in 2011 with Up On The Roof: The Greatest Hits.
Fans can expect a set-list loaded with 60 years of massive hits such as ‘Up On The Roof’, ‘Stand By Me’, ‘Be My Baby’, ‘Under The Boardwalk’, ‘Save The Last Dance For Me’, and many, many, more.
The current lineup, Michael Williams, Ryan King, Damien Charles, and Daniel Bowen-Smith, are looking forward to the Optimum World Tour 2014 with great excitement.
This tour is a fast moving and exciting production that will showcase The Drifters’ sound signature of four part vocal harmonies at its best.
The show, on Sunday, October 26, starts at 9 pm and tickets cost €33.50.
Jedward
Jedward come to the Royal Theatre on Monday October 27.
Masters of the live show, Jedward have performed to thousands of fans in hundreds of shows across the globe.
Their stunning visuals, costumes, and stage presence has captivated audiences during their tours of Ireland, the UK, Europe, Canada, and Australia. Their double debut album Planet Jedward went platinum in 2010 and saw the brothers rocket to the number one spot in the Irish singles charts and number two in the UK with ‘Under Pressure (Ice Ice Baby )’, featuring Vanilla Ice.
The duo have gone on to release two further albums - Victory and Young Love, and have represented Ireland twice in the Eurovision Song Contest with their infectious hits ‘Lipstick’ and ‘Waterline’.
