Opportunity for young Mayo musicians

For the second year running, Music Generation Mayo is offering financial assistance, in the form of a bursary scheme to exceptional music students residing in Mayo, aged from 10 to 18 years. Bursaries will be made available to defray the costs of accessing recognised expert music tuition or purchasing a musical instrument. This scheme is designed to allow gifted young musicians to further advance their skills and/or upgrade to a professional instrument.

In December 2013, 20 young musicians from throughout Mayo were awarded a combined total of €30,000 in financial assistance through this scheme, allowing them to progress further with their musical studies co-funded by their parents and Music Generation Mayo.

Co-ordinator for the programme, Kate McKeon, commented: “We are delighted to be able to offer this assistance to young musicians in the county, who with the backing of their parents and teachers have been steadily honing their craft and developing their skills from a young age. These young people are the musicians and teachers of the future and it’s so important that they are encouraged and supported at this stage and we look forward to watching their musical futures unfold.”
