Self-confessed bookworm and Moone Boy star Ian O'Reilly, from Moorehall, has called on schools in Mayo to get involved in a 'readathon' challenge in aid of MS Ireland.
O'Reilly joined his co-star David Rawle last week to officially launch the 27th MS Readathon challenge.
The readathon calls on schoolchildren to read as many books as they can in a month to raise money for people with multiple sclerosis.
O'Reilly said he had taken part in the readathon himself in years past and he urged schools across Mayo to sign up for the reading fun in aid of a very good cause.
“I think it is great,” he enthused. “I did it myself a few times and really enjoyed it.”
The young comedian said he is a very keen reader himself.
So much so that he currently has two books on the go - A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness and Armageddon Outta Here - The World of Skulduggery Pleasant by Derek Landy.
“They’re brilliant!” he added.
Mayo footballer Rob Hennelly is also flying the flag for this year’s MS Readathon as a regional ambassador for the campaign, and participating schools in Mayo this year will be in with a chance to win a training session with Mr Hennelly.
Multiple sclerosis is the most common disabling neurological disorder of young adults and affects more than 10,000 people in the island of Ireland.
The MS Readathon 2014 starts next Friday, October 10, and continues until November 10.
