Judge lands hole-in-one in Balla

Last weekend’s yellow ball stableford competition which was sponsored by Fragile, Castlebar was won by the duo of Lorcan Cribbin and Eamon Donnellan with a score of 112pts. Second place went to the team of Geraldine Evans and Breege Jennings who finished one point behind, while in third place were Aodan McSuibhne and John Walsh. Debbie Judge hit a hole-in-one on the 17th hole during the competition.

Ballinrobe

Last Friday’s open competition which was sponsored by Golfstyle Ltd was won by Gerry Comer who finished with a score of 41pts, the gross prize was won by Ronan Cahill, with Jacquie Hennessy winning the ladies’ competition with a score of 37pts. The ladies’ weekend competition was won by Sue Keane, with Catherine O’Toole in second place and Carmel Sweeney in third place. The gents’ weekend competition was won by Martin Gannon with James O’Gorman in second place and Ger Fahy in third, with the gross going to Blane Lynch.

Ballyhaunis

Padraig Cunnane was the winner of the gents’ competition with a score of 65 nett last Sunday, second place went to Brian Phillips, with Emmett Keane in third and Tommy Moran taking fourth spot. The ladies’ competition was won by Marietta Potgieter with a score of 69 nett, her back nine play saw her pip Joan McGuire to the win.

Claremorris

The gents’ competition was won by Sean Kenna with a score of 42pts, with Brian Farragher winning class one, Dave Kearney class two, Seamus Owens class three, with Stephen Gibbons taking the class four win. The ladies’ competition was won by June Johnston with Louise Grant coming home in second place and Dympna Clarke taking the nine-hole competition win.

Mulranny

Achill retained the Granuaile title at their home course on Sunday. With each of their eight fourball pairings scoring an amazing 44pts or better, they had 10pts to spare over Belmullet with Mulranny a further 12pts behind in third place

On the domestic front, Alexis Loftus showed a welcome return to form when shooting 39pts to win the weekend competition. Vincent Leonard was second on 38pts with vice-captain, Rod Wood third also on 38pts.

Swinford

In last weekend’s ladies’ club competition, Dympna O’Donnell was the winner with a score of 37pts and Marion Thornburg finished in second place two points further back.

Westport

Last weekend’s club competition was won by the trio of H Gillivan, J Healy, and M Golden with a score of 60 nett. They finished just in front of the team of  M Houston, A Gallagher, and B Hopkins, who came home in second place with T Bree, R Gibbons, and R Hehir finishing in third place. Next weeks competition is a fourball betterball and entries are now being taken for the 2014/2015 Winter League.
