Westport turns parking spots into leafy havens

Westport turned some of the town’s parking spaces into PARKing havens of a different variety altogether last weekend.

The town took part in its first PARKing Day, a novel worldwide initiative which sees people turn urban parking spots into temporary public parks and spaces for people to enjoy.

The day, which was first launched in San Francisco in 2005, aims to promote creativity, civic engagement, generosity, and play.

Westport had four parking spaces dedicated for the day - on Bridge Street, Shop Street, James Street, and at the Quay.

The spaces were occupied by the Clew Bay Garden Trail, Men’s Shed, Westport Leisure Park, Quay Community Centre, and Westport Smarter Travel.
