The Minister of State for Tourism and Sport, Michael Ring, yesterday announced that funding of approximately €257,000 is being made available to Mayo County Council for remedial works at all the county’s Wild Atlantic Way Discovery Points, totalling 30 sites in all, along the Mayo coast.
The Minister explained that the funding was part of Fáilte Ireland’s ongoing investment in the new tourism initiative and crucial to maximising the impact which the new tourism initiative can have for Mayo.
Minister Ring said: “Already, I am hearing anecdotally that the Wild Atlantic Way has significantly boosted tourism in Mayo this year and allowed us to grow visitor numbers and revenue into the county. We can grow more and it is important that we continue to develop the Wild Atlantic Way in our county to maximise its potential as a significant ‘game-changer’ in terms of the local economy and job creation.”
