Westport woman Margaret Jennings will be measuring, mixing, and kneading up a storm at the National Ploughing Championships next week in her bid to be crowned the best brown bread baker in the country.
Ms Jennings has made it all the way to the final eight contestants in the National Brown Bread Baking competition, and the deciding bake-off is to take place next Tuesday and Wednesday during the biggest agricultural festival of the year in Stradbally, Co Laois, on September 23 and 24.
Ms Jennings said she is “still in shock” about making it so far in the competition.
“My feet haven’t hit the ground at all yet,” she exclaimed.
Ms Jennings will be well supported in the competition with her partner Sean and her daugther, son-in-law, and grandchildren travelling to the ploughing championships to cheer her on.
“I am over the moon excited about it,” she added.
The competition is sponsored by Aldi, in association with the Irish Countrywomen’s Association and the National Ploughing Association.
The finals will take place in the Aldi tent at the National Ploughing Championships.
