A charity game featuring a number of legendary GAA figures that was due to take place in Knockmore on Saturday evening had to be called off on short notice yesterday.
The fundraising event, which would have aided Hope House in Foxford, would have featured a game between a selection from the 1988/1989 Mayo senior team and a rest of All Ireland All Stars.
Knockmore, which had organised the event, announced the news on Thursday saying: “Due to circumstances beyond our control the All Stars game due to take place on Saturday is off. We would like to thank all our sponsors of this event and all who offered their services over the last few days any one who wishes to donate to Hope House can still do so.”
It is believed that the game had to be pulled because of insurance issues raised by GAA authorities in Croke Park.
The game would have seen Joe Brolly, Oisin McConville, Owen Mulligan, Ja Fallon, Martin McHugh, Shane Curran, and Frankie Dolan line out for the All Stars selection, while for Mayo Liam McHale, John Maughan, Peter Ford, TJ Kilgallon, Anthony Finnerty, and Willie Joe Padden were going to don the green and red once more.
