From poetry, drama and ceilis to workshops, exhibitions, and tours, organisations across the county are getting ready to showcase and celebrate Mayo’s excellent cultural reputation on a national platform.
More than 100 free events are planend for Culture Night on September 19 as Mayo joins groups and venues across Ireland for the national celebration of all things cultural.
From the nation’s capital to towns and villages across the island, everyone is getting involved.
On the night, arts and cultural organisations across Ireland open their doors until late and offer a huge array of free culture events, tours, talks, and performances to enjoy.
This year’s event marks the sixth Culture Night in Mayo.
Since it began in 2009, the number of participants has steadily grown and, this year, 23 groups and venues will pull out all of the stops to produce an evening programme of unforgettable cultural experiences for audiences in the county.
Last year, almost 2,000 people of all ages engaged with Culture Night across Mayo, and even more are expected to take advantage of this year’s night of cultural adventure and discovery.
Regardless of where you are in the county, there is a Culture Night event taking place nearby, with events planned for Achill, Ballina, Ballinrobe, Ballintubber, Ballycastle, Ballycroy, Belmullet, Bohola, Ceathrú Thaidhg, Castlebar, Claremorris, Kilkelly, Lahardane, Louisburgh, Tuar Mhic Éadaigh, Turlough, and Westport.
Imagination and creativity are a hallmark of the excellent programmes that have made past Culture Nights in the past so successful, and 2014 will not disappoint.
Planned activities include family workshops, films, tours, demonstrations, exhibitions, performances, outdoor poetry events, craft displays, music seisiúns, and much, much, more.
