Blacksod Point Challenge coming soon

On Saturday September 13, Kilmore Triathlon Club is hosting the Blacksod Point Challenge national series race.

This Olympic distance triathlon takes place in the magical and mythical Erris Peninsula in Mayo, and has become known as “an animal with teeth” due to its test of endurance that pushes participants to their limits.

It is one of only seven national series Olympic distance triathlons, and as a result there is in the region of 300 athletes taking part every year. The race starts with a 1,500m swim in the Atlantic Ocean, followed by a fast 41km bike ride, and ends with an amazing 10km all-terrain run across the sand dunes of Fál Mor.

Road users are asked to be vigilant and expect a lot of cyclists on the Belmullet to Blacksod road between the hours of 9am to 2pm. If you would like to volunteer on the day of the race, call Erris Beo on (097 ) 81172 Ext 4, or call into the office behind the golf club. Alternatively you can email [email protected].
