Mayo’s first Educate Together school is set to open its doors on Monday.
A principal has now been appointed at Newtownwhite NS, between Ballina and Killala, in the form of Catherine Boland (pictured ).
There are currently 68 Educate Together schools nationwide. They are a network of multi-demoninational schools which are open to all children, regardless of their social, cultural, or religious backgrounds.
The vast majority of primary schools in Irleand are still under Catholic patronage. Out of 3,200 primary schools nationwide, just 300 are not under Catholic patronage.
New principal Ms Boland has more than 10 years’ experience teaching at all class levels and has a particular interest in sport, Gaelic games and science.
She joins Newtownwhite Educate Together NS from Ballinakill NS in Co Laois and previously taught in Gaelscoil Tiobraid Árann and Gaelscoil Bheanntraí.
“I am looking forward to my new role as principal of Newtownwhite ETNS,” said Ms Boland. “I hope to use my experience to date to create a happy, secure, and positive environment for all the children at the school. My vision is that the children of Newtownwhite ETNS will be excited by their learning, with their talents developed and motivated to become lifelong learners.”
