Jobs secured for workers at Breaffy House Resort

New owners plan major refurbishment project

An Irish-owned hotel management company has purchased Breaffy House Resort for an undisclosed sum and secured 120 full- and part-time jobs at the 90 acre, 230 room complex.

GN Asset Management bought the hotel from a bank appointed receiver with the help of a group of Irish investors, it was revealed this week.

The resort will now be managed by GN Asset Management and operated under the Great National Hotels and Resorts brand.

The hotel is to be renamed the Great National Breaffy Resort.

An extensive investment and refurbishment programme is also to start immediately, which is expected to create new jobs at the hotel and further secure its future.

Great National Hotels and Resorts was launched in Ireland in 2010 and operates 35 hotels, 23 of which are in Ireland and 12 of which are located throughout the UK.

Humbling

James Sullivan, CEO of GN Asset Management, said the group was delighted with the purchase.

“It is both humbling and a great source of pride to us, to know that we will be one of the area’s largest employers, supporting over 120 local employees and their families,” he said.

“We do not take this responsibility lightly and we pledge to support local and regional employment and business over the coming years.”

Mr Sullivan also thanked the long serving staff at the resort and the hotel’s customers for their support and loyalty over the years.

“We look forward to many years ahead at Breaffy,” he added.

“The location, support, and welcome we have received from the local business community in Castlebar, along with an excellent and well established workforce, has been key to our decision to purchase the resort. Our immediate plans will include an extensive refurbishment programme throughout all key areas.”
