Search is on for local talent as Oklahoma! comes to town

The newly launched Castlebar Musical and Dramatic Society is on the hunt for the best of local singing and dancing talent to star in its inaugural production - Oklahoma!

The society is holding open auditions on Monday and Tuesday, August 25 and 26, at 7 pm in the TF Royal Hotel, Castlebar.

The musical society was launched last month and its first production is an ambitious project, staging the world famous Rodgers and Hammerstein show over three dates from December 4 to 6 in the TF Royal Theatre.

“This is a brand new society so we are starting from scratch,” outlined Alanna Ní Mhíocháin, who will be in the director’s chair for Oklahoma!

“We are looking for lots of new members. Anyone who has an interest in music, singing, dancing, drama, or performing is more than welcome to attend the auditions - whether they are looking for a starring role or to join the chorus.

“We will also welcome anyone who has an interest in set-design, costume, make-up, or backstage work.”

Adrian Gavin, chairman of Castlebar Musical and Dramatic Society, was delighted with the establishment of the new community group. “This new society will build on previous Tops-of-the-Town and musical productions that have been held in Castlebar over the years. There is so much musical and dramatic talent in the local area and we want this group to showcase that talent.”

Sarah Ronayne, secretary of the new society, emphasised the inclusive ethos of the group. “We really want this group to be open and inviting to anyone in the community who wishes to join. As we are so newly founded, there are lots of opportunities for people to get involved in so many different ways, and we would love to hear from anyone interested in taking part.”

Anyone who is curious about the society can find out more from its Facebook page or website at www.cmds.ie
