Belmullet gears up for a festival full of fun

The Belmullet Festival is a friendly family event hosted in Belmullet. The festival includes pig racing, busking, a town treasure hunt, a car treasure hunt, and children’s fantasy football event. On Tuesday there will be the most important festival event: The Annual Heritage Day.

The event will kick off on Sunday with the annual family fun day from 2pm to 4.30pm in Aras Inis Gluaire which will include a mega-slide, bounce and slide, obstacle course, bungee run, wrecking ball, three in one bouncer, sumo suits, rodeo bull, and many more exciting events for all the family. On Sunday evening the action will move to Belmullet pier where there will be kayak racing and events from 5pm to 7pm. Life jackets, instructors, and kayaks will be supplied.

On Monday August 11 in Aras Inis Gluaire at 2pm a dog show will take place, and at 8.30pm in Aras Inis Gluaire A Trip Around Erris will be performed by Moffatt School of Dance. Tuesday August 12 is the big day of the festival with the annual heritage day taking over the town with events all day in Carter Square, Barrack Street, American Street, Church Road, and Main Street. The day will see lots of live music, dancing, workshops of the crafts of days gone by, and something for everyone to enjoy on the streets of Belmullet.

On Wednesday August 13 buskers will take over the town from 12 noon to 4pm, and at 2pm a town treasure hunt will get under way, while in Pairc Beo at Aras Inis Gluaire, Iorras Aontaithe will host a fantasy football competition from 5pm to 7pm. Events will continue over the weekend including the Big Fair Day on Friday August 15.
