The annual Tuar Mhic Eadaigh 10k took place on Saturday, August 2. The race was won by Noel Gibbons (Mayo AC ) in a time of 37:36 to retain the title he won in 2013. He was followed home in second place by Niall Lynch, with John Kyne finishing in third place. The loop course along the scenic shores of Lough Mask has some tough terrain over the first 5k, particularly the uphill start, though the second half along the lakeside was an easier run. Deirdre Byrne (Sli Cualann AC ) took time off from a local holiday to win the women's race in 38:48. She finished ahead of Angela O'Connor (Mayo AC ) in second place in a time of 42:05, her second placed finish was an improvement on her bronze medal run last year. Lorraine O’Connell came home in third place in the women’s event. Over 100 runners, walkers and children took part in the race. The event was well organised and marshalled by the Tourmakeady community team led by Yvonne Finn and Tommy Heffernan. The race was a community organised event which helped raise funds for Páirc Spraoi, a project recently built and free for all the community to use.
