Newtownwhite NS at Ballysakerry, between Ballina and Killala, is to become the first Educate Together school in the county this September.
Educate Together is a network of non-demoninational schools governed by a parents’ committee.
Recruitment for a principal at the two-teacher school is under way.
Regional development officer for Educate Together, Jarlath Munnelly, said it is a very exciting time for the school.
“Everyone involved is looking forward to September, and the school opening its doors under Educate Together patronage - making it the first Educate Together school in Mayo,” he said.
