Eircom invests €10 million for super fast broadway in Mayo

Eircom have announced they are halfway through a €10 million project to deliver high speed broadband to 33,000 homes and businesses throughout the county by 2016.

Claremorris is the latest town in Mayo where the high speed fibre broadband is now available.

By the end of August 1,000 premises in Claremorris will be able to access the new network. Currently, 300 premises can access the new speeds.

The upgrade has seen 10 kilometres of new fibre laid in the town.

Broadband speeds in Claremorris, at up to 100 megabytes per second, now match those available in Ballina, Castlebar, and Westport.

The Eircom project - Open Access Network upgrade - is part of a €400 million investment to deliver high-speed broadband to 1.4 million homes and businesses nationwide by 2016.

The towns of Ballyhaunis, Belmullet, Cong, Kiltimagh, Knock, and Louisburgh will also have access to high-speed broadband when the entire €10 million project in Mayo is complete.
