Connacht Rugby head to Ballinrobe for training and the races

The Connacht Rugby senior squad heads to Mayo next Tuesday for a pre-season training session at Ballinrobe RFC.

The squad will train on the club’s redeveloped pitch at 2pm, followed by a session at 3pm with youngsters from the club. Both sessions are open to the public to attend, while there will be photo opportunities with the players.

The squad plans to attend the Family Race Day meeting at the Ballinrobe Racecourse where they will have dinner and watch the evening’s races, including a special race in their honour, the Connacht Rugby Handicap Hurdle.

Coach Pat Lam says it is important the club continues to connect with its supporters throughout the province.

"We're really looking forward to getting up to Mayo again. We brought the whole squad out to Castlebar and Westport last season and it was a huge success. We're into week three of pre-season already now and it's very full on for both the players and management, so it's nice to change things up with a training session in a different location and in the process help support Ballinrobe.”

John Flannelly, Ballinrobe Racecourse manager, says it will be an added bonus for all the children attending family day to be able to meet the Connacht Rugby stars.

" It's fantastic to have the Connacht Rugby team taking part in rugby training and enjoying the racing action in our local community, bringing the two sports together.”
