Go a bit Bear Grylls for Clare Island raft race

Organisers of a novel event on Clare Island this August Bank Holiday weekend are urging people to go a bit Bear Grylls and build their own seafaring raft to race around Clew Bay.

However you do not have to be a survivalist expert for the task.

Instead, the team at Clare Island Adventures say all you need to do is “show up in a swimsuit with a can-do attitude and a determination to complete the course”.

Teams of four to six people can enter the competition, which will culminate in a 300-metre race in the handmade rafts.

Towns, villages, islands, businesses, sports clubs, and individuals can all put forward teams.

Heats will take place on Sunday morning, August 3, with the final taking place in the afternoon at around 4.30pm, so day visitors to Clare Island can take part as well as people who are overnighting there.

Entry is €60 per team. For more information, visit www.clareislandadventures.ie
