One of the country’s most respected contemporary folk artists, Luka Bloom, is lending his support to the Geraldine Lavelle Trust and playing a fundraising gig in Matt Molloys on Wednesday July 16.
The trust was set-up to raise funds for 27-year-old Geraldine Lavelle from Castlebar, who was paralysed in a road collision last October.
Ms Lavelle, a keen cyclist and fitness enthusiast, graduated from NUI Galway with a master’s degree in neuroscience.
She is now determined to defy medical expectations and one day walk again.
Currently undergoing an intensive rehabilitation programme, Ms Lavelle took part in the Stoke Mandeville Hospital games in the UK in April and won a silver medal.
Ms Lavell’s inspirational determination to rebuild her life has captured the hearts of both the county and the country, attracting huge support and recognition.
The Geraldine Lavelle Trust aims to fundraise for specialised equipment and treatment to support Ms Lavelle towards realising her ambitions to walk again.
Luka Bloom will headline at the fundraising gig on July 16 and local group Coda will also play.
Admission is on the door on the night and costs €15. Doors open at 8.15pm. A raffle will also take place on the night.
