Ballina is preparing to celebrate the 50th anniversary of its now world renowned Salmon Festival, which launches on Monday (July 6 ) and continues until Sunday, July 13.
Festivities during the week include a teddy bears picnic, a Garth Brooks experience, duck racing, fireworks and of course Ballina’s famous Heritage Day.
Heritage Day falls this year on Wednesday and will see the streets of the town transported back through time as locals and visitors don heritage costumes, traditional music fills the air and traditional crafts people demonstrate the skills of times gone by.
The Mardi Gras is back by popular demand on Saturday night followed by a spectacular fireworks display over the River Moy.
It all winds down on Sunday with the Duck Race on the River Moy during the day and International Night that evening.
Other events taking place during the week include the Liquid Motion Salmon Run Triathlon on Saturday, July 5; historical walks led by local historian Carmel Hughes on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday, starting at 11am from The Font; a visual art exhibition in Ballina Civic Offices from Monday July 7 to Friday July 18; and Kíla playing in the Arts Centre and Bagatelle in Hotel Ballina on Tuesday, July 8.
