Castlebar Chamber has launched a new 'essential guide' to highlight all of the attractions and activites available in the town and encourage more people to schedule a visit to Castlebar when they are touring in the west.
The guide is now being distributed to hotels, B&Bs, airports, tourism offices and other points across the region where they are likely to target new visitors for the area.
The colourful and vibrant 30-page booklet, which was produced by the Chamber with support from local businesses and the Love Castlebar initiative, is packed with activities, attractions and photographs that showcase the town as a top destination.
Some of the items highlighted in the guide include shopping, attractive walking and cycling routes; golfing; fishing; indoor entertainment; historical sites; arts and music; and food and drink.
Sinead Kelleher, Castlebar Chamber, said the booklet was developed because, up until now, there wasn't actually a comprehensive essential guide to everything that is available in the town.
“There were brochures promoting very specific activities and attractions in the locality but there was no, single definitive guide to the whole town, which could give a very, broad range of people a reason to visit.
“By reaching out to people across the region and beyond, we can also encourage tourists or daytrippers who might be passing by, enroute to somewhere else, to schedule a stop in the town, enjoy some shopping and see what we have to offer.”
Castlebar Chamber is also calling on people to get the 'tweet on the street' out about Castlebar and all that is has to offer this summer by using a new hashtag on Twitter called #CastlebarNow.
By encouraging the townspeople, businesses and event organisers to use the #CastlebarNow hashtag, the Chamber is hoping it will make it easier for locals and visitors alike to find out all about the various events, entertainment and retail offerings in the town.
