Last weekend’s men’s competition was won by Stephen Walsh who shot 55 nett to hold off Eamon Donnellan in second place. The gross prize was won by Bert Eagleton with Aodan McSuibhnie finishing in third place. The ladies’ competition was won by Marian Gormley who scored 52 nett, Delia O’Hara finished in second place, with Mary B O’Donnell in third place, and Marie Flanagan winning the gross prize. Lady Captain Patricia Conwell will host her Captain’s Day competition this Sunday July 6.
Ballina
Joe Kennedy was the winner of the Mr A Menswear sponsored competition with a score of 43, he finished in front of John Irwin in second place, and Dermot Timlin finished in third place. The Mayo county final of the NCBI (National Council For The Blind ) Holmpatrick Cup will be played at Ballina Golf Club today Friday.

Tom McGuire won the Hazelhill Timber sponsored competition last Sunday with a score of 65 nett he finished two in front of John Jordan in second place, with Tom Moran winning the gross competition. The ladies’ competition was won by Fiona Prenty who shot a round of 69 nett, with Mary Cunnane finishing in second place. The junior competition was won by James Lyon who scored 68 nett for his two rounds.
Belmullet
PJ Carey was the winner of the President’s Prize with a score of 67, he finished one in front of Kevin Fallon, in second place with Kevin Donnelly taking the gross prize. Vivian Hughes finished in third place with Gerard McDonnell coming home in fourth spot. The category competitions were won by Francis Healy and John Healy, with Eddie McAndrew the best man around the front nine and Jimmy Flanney the best man around the back nine. The longest drive competition was won by Damien Murphy, with John Cawley the nearest to the pin. Tom McAndrew hit a hole in one on the second hole in the competition.
Castlebar
Alicia Murray won the ladies’ weekly Wednesday competition with a score of 39pts, she finished in front of Mary Casey in second and Brid Toher in third place. Jerry King was the winner of the gents’ weekend competition with a score of 43pts, Ronan Waldron finished in second place, and Ian McDonagh finished in third place. The first round of the 2014 Lady Captain’s Prize (Dolores Towey ) was played on Sunday. The weekend started off with the famous Lady Captain’s Scramble (a shotgun start ) last Friday evening. The leading score of day one was returned by Pauline Casey with an excellent 67 nett. Mary Fox was two shots back on 69 nett. Ilish McGing and Martina Kelly were next on 70 nett. There were a number of players following closely behind in the low seventies. Day one was exciting but the real excitement will arise as round two results are revealed tomorrow evening.
Claremorris
Last weekend’s Golf Style sponsored competition was won by visitor Eugene Patten with a score of 41pts, Paul Kenna finished in second place, with Ger Noone taking the gross prize. Pat Connaughton finished in third, with Joe Diskin in fourth, and Daniel Garvey in fifth place. The front nine section was won by Tom Higgins, with Sean Higgins recording the best score over the back nine. The members’ prize was won by Fergal Corbett. Hannah Grant was the winner of the ladies’ section with Christina Rush finishing in second place. Nuala Moran finished in third, with Ann Moran in fourth, and Nancy McHugh finishing in fifth. The gross prize went to Anne Meghan, with Breege Leonard winning the front nine competition and Eileen Clasby the back nine competition. The members’ prize went home with Yvonne Oldham and the nine-hole competition was won by Norah Maloney.
Mulranny
Paddy Chambers recorded a score of four up to take first prize in the T Bourke’s Pub, Westport, sponsored par competition at the weekend. Richard Keane finished second with three up, and Tom Mulloy filled third spot on two up. Next Sunday’s Golfer of the Year competition is sponsored by Urban Style, Castlebar. A time sheet will operate. Vinny Gannon continues to top the GOY leaderboard but he has a slender lead from Sean Heverin with John Joyce moving into contention.

In last weekends President’s Prize Michael Walsh was the winner with a score of 64 nett, Joseph Gallagher jr finished in second place with a score of 65 nett, and John McCallion finished in third place with a score of 67 nett. The gross prize was won by Gerry Roynane who shot 73 nett, the past president’s prize was claimed by Charles Quinn, with the longest drive going to Gerry Roynane, and John Boland won the nearest the pin prize. The front nine competition was claimed by Michael Rowely and John Sheehran won the back nine competition. The category prizes were won by Sean Geraghty, Richard Ingham, and TP Loftus. The ladies’ competition was won by Siobhan King, with Dympna O’Donnell finishing in second place, and Miariam Thornsbury finishing third.
Westport
Greg Dyar was the winner of the Golfer of the Year competition last Sunday with a score of 42pts, Jim Goggins finished in second place, and Ray Gibbons in third. The gross prize was won by Sam Gillivan, with the category prizes going to Brian Duffy, Tony House, Declan Quinn, and Padraic Moran. Next Saturday and Sunday see the highlight of the gents’ golfing calendar; Joe Carty’s Captain’s Prize at Westport Golf Club.
