Blue skies and sunshine for new park opening in Glenamoy

It was a case of blue skies, sunshine, and plenty of smiles all around at the official opening on Monday of a new recreation park in Glenamoy, Ballina.

The Minister of State for Tourism and Sport, Michael Ring, was on official ribbon-cutting duty at the well-attended event.

The Kilchomain Recreational Park is a €170,000 multi-use games area and children’s playground.

Works began on the park, funded under the Community Gains Investment Fund, in November and were completed early this week.

Minister Ring described the park as a “tremendous development” in the community.

The park was designed and managed by Peter Gill with technical support provided by the Mayo County Council.

The community donated the grounds for the facility.

The Minister paid tribute to Philip Irwin of Kilchomain GAA Club, who acted as the community representative in the development of the project.

“I also wish to compliment the volunteers for the excellent work they do within the community and I wish to thank all involved in this wonderful project. I pay tribute to the contractor, Go Play from Galway, and everybody who was involved in bringing this facility to fruition,” outlined Minister Ring.

“It is a brilliant facility that is in no other rural part of the county,” he added. “This is an absolute credit to the community and I have no doubt that this facility will be widely used by the children and parents of Kilchomain and the surrounding areas for years ahead.”
