It was a case of Furnace by name and furnace by nature on Tuesday when the highest temperature in Ireland was recorded in Furnace, Newport.
Met Eireann said temperatures in Furnace tipped the mercury at 27 degrees on Tuesday afternoon, making it the hottest day so far this year.
Although the heatwave that bathed the country in sunshine this week has chilled somewhat in the west, the forecast for the weekend is not all doom and gloom with plenty of dry weather and sunny spells ahead, albeit with much cooler temperatures.
