Raising awareness for men’s health

A national awareness week to encourage more men to take better care of their health kicks off this Monday (June 9 ).

The theme for Men’s Health Week 2014 is ‘Men’s Health - Challenges, Choices and Celebrations’.

The week, organised by the Men’s Health Forum in Ireland (MHFI ), aims to highlight the challenges around men’s health and the positive choices people can make to meet these challenges.

It will also celebrate the contribution men and boys make to Irish communities.

On average, Irish men die four a half years younger than their female counterparts  and have higher death rates than women across all leading causes of death.

According to the MHFI, poor lifestyle choices are responsible for a high proportion of chronic diseases in men. Late presentation to health services is another serious issue.
