Revenue seizes cigarettes in Mayo

In two separate, intelligence-led operations on Wednesday, officers from Revenue's Customs Service seized 32,500 cigarettes with a retail value of €14,156 and a potential loss to the Exchequer of €11,840.

The West brand cigarettes were found in two large courier packages which had arrived into Ireland from Germany. In both operations, officers acting under court warrant searched two private residences, one in Knock town and one in Athlone. Two Polish nationals in their thirties were questioned in relation to the seizures. Investigations are continuing with a view to prosecution.

These seizures are part of Revenue's ongoing operations targeting the supply and sale of illegal cigarettes.
