Mayo’s winning streak on National Lottery games continued this week. Earlier this week two lucky players from the county took home €385,221 between them, both were winners on the popular Euro Millions game. First in was a man who was just one number away from scooping the €15 million jackpot on Tuesday, May 6. He matched five numbers plus one lucky star, winning a prize of €315,673.
“This is plenty for me,” smiled the regular player, who wishes to remain anonymous. “I never dreamed I’d be sitting here collecting a big cheque from the National Lottery. I’m over the moon.” He bought his €6 ticket in Murphy’s Newsagents, Main Street, Ballinrobe. He picked his own lucky numbers.
Costcutters in Balla, Castlebar, sold the biggest Irish winning ticket in last Friday’s Euro Millions draw, worth €69,548. The lucky player bought her €6 Quick Pick ticket in the shop last Thursday and matched five numbers in Friday night’s draw to win the prize. The prize was claimed this week by a very happy woman from Mayo who wishes to remain private. “I’m delighted with this win. And this summer I’m definitely making my dream come true by going scuba diving in the Barrier Reef,” said the winner.
These wins follow on from last month when a Euro Millions jackpot winning ticket worth €15 million was won in the county. That lucky ticket was sold at Staunton’s Costcutter Express in Castlebar.
