Féile na Tuaithe, the free family festival which celebrates country life, is making its highly anticipated return to Turlough next weekend (May 24 and 25 ) and is expected to bring more than 20,000 visitors to the grounds of Turlough Park over two days.
Festival organisers are putting measures in place to ensure access is easy on the day with a free shuttle bus service from Castlebar Library to the gates of the museum from 11.30am on Saturday and Sunday.
Complimentary parking is available in Turlough village and a traffic management plan is in place. Copies of the traffic management plan are available from the museum and from local shops in Turlough village.
Midwest Radio kicks off the weekend with a live broadcast, starting on Saturday at 10am, capturing the excitement of the build-up in anticipation of the huge crowds arriving over the weekend.
Organisers say the radio broadcast is a great opportunity for festival goers to hear about some of the new and different attractions, and help them plan their Féile day.
This year, more than ever before, the museum has pulled out all the stops to make Féile bigger and better than ever.
There is an impressive array and range of attractions, displays, demonstrations, and stalls, all celebrating the countryside and connect to the museum’s country life theme, throughout the extensive grounds. This year, there are also more opportunities to meet and engage with the people who are making and creating.
For music and dance, the birds and the bees, foodies and flowers, seaweed and strawcraft, traditional games and thatching, Féile is full of action and fun.
This year, festival goers are also called to be a part of Féile, and not just onlookers. People are encouraged to “raid the attic” and dress up in traditional costume, send the photo to the festival organisers and be in with a chance to win a gift voucher for the museum shop.
The competition is free to enter.
The festival, which is supported by Mayo County Council, starts at 12 noon each day.
