Swinford going trad mad for Mayo Fleadh this weekend

Swinford is going trad mad this weekend for the arrival to town of the Mayo Fleadh.

Cathaoirleach of Mayo County Council, Councillor John O’Malley, was in Swinford to launch the fleadh.

Swinford is well accustomed to hosting fleadh events, having enjoyed a number of successful county and provincial fleadhs there in recent years.

The hard working local committee, headed up by chairperson Barbara Fogarty and secretary, Maureen Noone, have put in long hours in recent months to ensure that Fleadh Mhaigh Eo 2014 will be even more successful than last year and promise something for everybody over the weekend.

The fleadh will be officially opened tonight (Friday, May 9 ) in the Gateway Hotel at 8pm.

This will be followed by the Fleadh Céilí in the Gateway Hotel at 9.30pm with music by Swallow’s Tail. Various hostelries throughout the town will also host music sessions on the night.

Fleadh Mhaigh Eo Saturday is an action packed day from early morning to the late hours. Fleadh competitions take place throughout the day, starting at 10am.

Aifreann na Fleidhe will be celebrated in the local church on Saturday evening at 6.30pm and Seisiún na Fleidhe will take place in the Gateway Hotel between 7 and 9.30pm. This will be followed by trad music sessions in the local pubs.
