Hole-in-one for Sam Gillivan in Westport

There was plenty of golf action around the county last weekend, including a hole-in-one recorded by Sam Gillivan in Westport.

Here are some of the results of the competitions that were played.

Westport

The competition on Saturday May 3, was won by Colin Cameron (13 ) on 44; with Liam Joyce (21 ) on second with 40.

The competition on Sunday May 4, was won by Jack Healy (3 ) on 40. Brian Duffy (12 ) also on 40 was second, and Kieran McGettigan (13 ), with 39 points, was in third.

Congratulations to Sam Gillivan who recorded a hole-in-one on the ninth.

Liam Friel’s team including John Collins, Pat Gallagher, and Vincent Rigney who were appearing in their 10th Winter League final secured the 2013/2014 honours when Pat Gallagher defeated Paddy Donoghue on the 18th in match two.

Liam Friel had a comfortable victory in the opening game, while Vincent Rigney and John Collins recovered from six down after eight to go one down after 16 before being called in.

The annual Blind AmAm fundraiser was a huge success on Friday last. The winning team of Ivan Carroll, Sean Durkan, Kevin Reilly and Ray Prendergast had one shot to spare over the field. Notable mentions go to the teams of Peter McNally (second ), Sean Walsh (third ), Peter Horkan (fourth ), and Tony McCabe (fifth ).

Next week’s competition will be the Tim Hastings Volkswagen Masters GOY.

Balla

The Greensome competition at Balla Golf Club on May 2, 3, and 5, sponsored by Brant Rock Castlebar, was won by Kitty O’Connor and Tommy Walsh (44 nett ).

The second team was Aodan McSuibhne and Mary B O’Donnell (45 nett back nine ).

In third place were Lorcan Cribbin and Eamonn Donnellan (45 nett ).

Swinford

The Robert McCallion Perpetual Cup, in Swinford Golf Club, was won by Mary Doyle on 67 net.

Marie O’Donnell, 72 net, was second.

Ballinrobe

The results of the club’s AmAm on May 3, 4, and 5 are as follows:

First Joe Sheridan, Ray Prendergast, Martin Summerville, and Des Murphy on 98; second Willie Rodgers, Sean O’Connor, Aidan Varley, and Conor Varley on 98; third Conor Creaven, Paddy Farrell, Peter Flaherty, and William Kavanagh on 92; fourth Philip Rossiter, Martin Hughes, McManamon, and John Gilraine on 91; fifth Vincent Connell, Denny Murphy, Tommy Byrne, and Ailish Gleeson on 91, sixth John C Murphy, James Dooley, Frank McDonagh, and Jarlath King on 89, seventh JJ Higgins, Eamon Higgins, Sean Frehan, and Ger Lynch on 89.
