A college in Westport has become the first third-level campus in the country, and possibly in Europe, to introduce a no smoking policy.
The grounds of Westport College of Further Education went smoke free on Monday.
National anti-smoking group ASH Ireland welcomed the move.
“To our knowledge, Westport College of Further Education is the first third level college in Ireland, or perhaps in Europe, to announce a smoke-free campus policy,” said a spokesperson. “We wish Westport College every success with this hugely important health initiative and we encourage other third level institutions to adopt a similar policy.”
