Local musicians unite for suicide prevention concert

A group of top local musicians are uniting to stage a rock and roll extravaganza in Castlebar next weekend to raise awareness and funds for a suicide prevention initiative. Talkaboutit.ie is a voluntary organisation based in Mayo which aims to raise awareness about suicide and suicide prevention in Ireland by encouraging people to simply ‘talk about it’.

The concert venue is the Castlebar Celtic Clubhouse at 9pm on Saturday May 3. Admission is just €5.

Organisers of the night are promising an eclectic mix of music to appeal to people of all ages and which will “make it hard to stay in your seats”.

Headlining the night will be the highly anticipated début performance from Jam Sugar. These talented Castlebar natives will be rocking out classics from the 1960s, 70s, and 80s.

Soul man Michael Sheridan will be joined onstage by some friends on the night to funk up your life.

Kieran Lenehan will also be on the acoustic guitar while Candy Moon will provide their own style of rootsy blues.

John Terror will haunt with his sultry vocals and original melodies.

More acts are to be announced. Talkaboutit.ie, founded by Joe McGuire, provides a drop-in centre in Castlebar, which is open six days a week, from 10am to 6pm, providing a relaxed, informal environment for people to share their problems, no matter how great or small, with qualifed counsellors and health practitioners also available.

Donations and volunteers are also most welcome.
