Centenary concert will mark World War One anniversary

A concert to mark the centenary of the outbreak of World War One will take place in Christ Church, Castlebar, on May 11 at 8 pm.

The concert is organised by the Mayo Peace Park Committee and Christ Church Restoration Committee in association with the Soroptimist Clubs North South Conference of Ireland Annual Conference.

The concert will feature Cór Mhaigh Eo - the county choir - and Mayo soprano Francie McNicholas from Swinford.

Tenor Jerry Lynch from Clare will also perform.

The Soroptimist Clubs Association of Ireland is holding its annual convention in on the same weekend and they will perform a special wreath laying ceremony in the Mayo Peace Park at 11 am on the day of the concert, during which they will be unveiling a special plaque to mark the participation of the women of Ireland in the two world wars.
