Mayo man elected as chairperson of Foróige

Michael Lynskey from Tooreen has been elected as the national chairman of the youth organisation Foróige.

Almost 200 Foróige volunteer leaders from all over the country attended the conference in Mullingar where Mr Lynskey was elected.

Speaking after his election, the father of three said: “I’m delighted and honoured to be elected as chairperson of such a fantastic organisation. I was a member of Foróige myself as a teenager and the organisation’s ethos of ‘learning by doing’ opened up a whole new world to me. When I became a parent, I wanted to ensure my children could benefit as I did from Foróige, so I volunteered as a leader in Foróige and helped re-establish the Foróige club in Tooreen, a club which is still active to this day.”

Michael is now volunteer leader with the FAZE Foróige Club in Knock, which boasts some 50 members.

“In our work as volunteers with young people in Foróige clubs, we are in an ideal position to enable young people to develop their skills, confidence and self belief and to empower young people to achieve their full potential,” added Mr Lynskey.
