SsangYong has launched its flagship 4x4 SUV, the new Rexton W, with a competitive starting price of €34,119 (including VAT ) for the commercial version.
The Korean car brand SsangYong is gaining a growing reputation in Ireland following its 2013 re-entry to the market with a new range and a growing dealer network. Globally, the brand has consistently grown its market share for the past three years following large investment from Indian conglomerate Mahindra & Mahindra.
The new Rexton W has been called the ‘most anticipated’ of the range by SsangYong Motors Ireland. The selectable 4x4 car uses a body on frame construction for maximum strength – the accepted approach for a ‘proper’ off-roader – and double wishbone and coil spring suspension to the front, and a five link rigid axle with coil springs at the rear.
The Rexton W is powered by SsangYong’s own 2.0 litre turbocharged e-XDi200 diesel engine, offering a level of performance and NVH (noise, vibration and harshness ) control.
SsangYong Motors Ireland is offering the choice of a six-speed manual transmission or five-speed automatic, which, it says, ensures durability, smooth gear changing and high performance. When venturing off road, the driver can select low range, which also splits the torque equally between front and rear axles to provide all-round traction and ensure optimum grip across the most challenging terrain.
With its 2.6 tonne towing capability, the new Rexton W should also make light work of hauling a full-size caravan, double horse-box, boat or work trailer.
The cabin has been given a refreshed new look. Soft-touch materials result in a modern and comfortable environment, yet one that will prove practical in everyday use.
Buyers will have a choice of a two-seat commercial, five-seat commercial (utility ), or seven seat passenger. In the seven-seater option, the rear row of two seats stow conveniently beneath the boot floor. The comprehensive levels of standard equipment include heated front and rear seats, cruise control, air conditioning, electrically operated and heated folding door mirrors, and CD and RDS radio with USB and Bluetooth connectivity.
Seats come in leatherette material as standard, but full leather is an optional extra. And the Rexton W will be available in five exterior colours.
The full Rexton W prices are €34,119 for the commercial (with automatic from €36,769 ); the Business Edition (5 seater commercial utility ) from €38,329 (automatic from €41,377 ) - all of which are inclusive of VAT. The seven-seater passenger starts from €44,474 (with the automatic from €48,185 ).
As with all models in the SsangYong range, the new Rexton W is covered by a five-year warranty- up to 150,000km in commercial versions and limitless on passenger versions. Five years' roadside assistance also applies.
