An Taoiseach Enda Kenny is taking part today in a major nationwide day of awareness called Job Shadow Day, to promote employment opportunities for people with disabilities.
Job Shadow Day will see Mr Kenny 'shadowed' by a jobseeker with a disability as he goes about his everyday working routine.
The day is designed to give people with disabilities a unique opportunity to discover and learn more about the skills and education required to compete and succeed in the workplace.
There are hundreds of employers and professionals across the country taking part in Job Shadow Day.
Job Shadow Day is organised by the Irish Association of Supported Employment (IASE ), which is based in Belmullet and which promotes equal employment opportunities for people with disabilities through a system of supports called 'supported employment'.
Chairman of the IASE, Greg Barry, is from Castlebar.
He said the initiative “gives job seekers the opportunity to learn more about their career choice and creates awareness of the positive contribution people with disabilities can and do make to the work place.
“Job Shadow is a positive experience for all involved,” added Mr Barry.
