Munnelly welcomes pier funding for Lacken and Ballycastle

Cllr Jarlath Munnelly has confirmed that Mayo County Council will be allocating a further €15,000 each towards works at Lacken Pier and Ballycastle Pier. This is on top of the grant of €135,000 that has been allocated to each of these piers by the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine.

The local Fine Gael councillor said that the additional money that will be provided by Mayo County Council will allow further works to be completed on these piers, which have not received any funding for a number of years. “The additional allocation by Mayo County Council will allow more work to be done on these piers, to bring them up to a good standard for use by local fishermen, and for marine tourism,” he said. “These piers have been neglected for years, but this year they are going to get a good overhaul.”

Cllr Munnelly concluded by stating that works will be commencing on these piers over the coming weeks.
