Acupuncture could help hay fever and sinus problems

The root cause of hay fever and sinus problems could be treated with Chinese medicine, according to therapists at Care Cure Acupuncture.

Care Cure Acupuncture believes that hay fever and sinus problems are caused by an imbalance in the lung and kidney meridians/channels.

For example, any grass or plant you can make into hay can cause hay fever. In Western medicine we say that this is the result of an overactive immune system, which leads to the overproduction of histamine; a doctor will combat this with antihistamines and steroids. Although this treatment may work in the short term, it ignores the root cause of the problem.

The extra histamine produced by the body causes the symptoms including runny nose, itching, watery eyes, and sneezing. People with this condition have a clear liquid nasal discharge, coughing, and can be very sensitive to wind or any change in climate.

The Chinese say ‘catch the wind’ in the same way we say ‘catch a cold’, and catching the wind can lead to an imbalance the lung meridian. Sinuses are also aggravated by the wind. Here the lung meridian fights back by sneezing, discharging fluid from the nose, and other symptoms. The meridians affected are the lungs and kidneys. If the kidneys are unbalanced the body is cold, you will experience frequent urination, lower back pain, and head pressure and pain.

Chinese medicine uses acupuncture and herbs to warm up the body and balance the lung and kidney meridians.
