Daffodil Day, the flagship fundraiser for the Irish Cancer Society, will take place in Mayo on March 28.
The fundraiser suffered a major setback last year when severe wet weather saw sales of the bright daffodil pins plummet and reduced donations by 50 per cent.
This year, organisers are ‘waterproofing’ the event by organising many indoor collection points.
The society hopes to raise €3.45 million to provide and expand services, including night nursing services, which last year delivered 320 nights of care to 82 cancer patients in Mayo.
