Mountain walking festival returns

Details for the sixth annual Leenane Mountain Walking Festival have been announced.

It will take place from May 2 to 4.

The festival has become a hugely successful event for Connemara and the surrounding area.

Speaking at the launch of this year’s festival, chairperson Martin Gavin commented: “This is a great opportunity for all to enjoy and celebrate our local countryside. I want to acknowledge the generosity of the local landowners because, without their support, this festival could not take place.”

The festival is designed to suit walkers of all abilities, with casual, low-level walks and challenging hikes for the more experienced. Each day there is a choice of at least three walks and a guided cycle.

This year’s programme includes the firm favourite, Mweelrea Mountain walk, as well as two new walks, Benbaun to Kylemore, and a nature walk around the new Delphi trails.

Walkers must register online for the events. For full details and a list of events, visit www.leenanevillage.com or for further information, email [email protected] or call Martin on (087 ) 1422 452.
