Three things of note from Sunday's game.
No black card replacement
Kerry saw two men sent to the sideline for picking up black cards. Shane Enright saw the line for tripping Michael Conroy six minutes into the second half and was replaced by Pa Kilkenny. Mark Griffin was shown a black card two minutes before the end, but Kerry were not able to bring on a replacement as they had used their six subs already at that stage.
Level eight times
The teams were level on eight occasions throughout the game (discounting before the first score of the game ). They were level six times in the first half from the tenth to 29th minute. While in the second half they were level twice in the 42 minute at 2-9 to 1-12 and finally 55 minutes in when Alan Freeman's point made it 2-10 to 1-13, which was the start of Mayo's six unanswered points up until full time.
Even enough in the middle
There were 31 scores between the two sides in MacHale Park on Sunday afternoon over the 70 minutes, 20 of them came in the first half and the other eleven in the second period. There were also 17 wides kicked between both teams on the day. Mayo kicked eight, four in each half and Kerry nine, four in the first half and five in the second half. That saw 48 kick-outs in the game, 28 in the first half and 20 in the second. Both teams emerged with pretty even in the possession stakes with Mayo coming out with the ball from 25 of those kick-outs and Kerry with emerging with the ball 23 times. The first half saw both teams claim the ball 14 times from restarts (the last restart of the half was taken by Kerry as the half-time whistle was blown ). The second half saw Mayo gain possession on 11 occasions from kick-outs and Kerry on nine occasions.
