Testing conditions in cross country championship

Dunboyne Athletic Club hosted the national intermediate and masters cross country championships last Sunday. The Meath venue was given good test of its ability to hold up against the conditions as 800 juveniles took to the course in the morning before the main event to make sure the underfoot conditions were up to scratch.

In the women’s race, Colette Tuohy and Ann Lennon were really to the fore, with Tuohy finishing second overall and the first over-45 finisher on the day in a time of 16.02. Ann Lennon came home in fifth place overall and second over-45 behind her team-mate. Angela O’Connor came home inside the top 30 overall and Joan Walsh’s contribution will count towards the team medals which will be confirmed later.

In the men’s race John Byrne was fourth home overall and the second over-35 finisher to pick up a silver medal. His team-mates Anto Devaney, Brendan Gill, and Noel Gibbons all put in strong performances in the pack on the tricky cross-country course in the Royal county.
